With support of the ProQr Project, the Ministry of Infrastructure promotes lectures and exchange on Low Carbon Aviation

ProQR, in partnership with the Subsecretariat of Sustainability and the National Civil Aviation Secretariat of the Ministry of Infrastructure (MInfra), invites to the Side Event: Brazil towards Low Carbon Aviation, which will take place on October 21, at 9:00 am at 5 pm (GMT -3). The event, held in Portuguese language, will consist of a thematic workshop and will feature several speakers, with the aim of discussing the challenges and opportunities for the feasibility of sustainable fuels for Brazilian aviation. In this way, it will be possible to propose to the technical sectors recommendations for the future of clean aviation in Brazil.

VIA VIVA, this year’s Social and Environmental Seminar on Transport Infrastructure, is promoted by the Ministry of Infrastructure and is in its fifth edition. The Seminar reaffirms Brazil’s commitment to sustainability, as a way to build a model of socioeconomic development that does not lose sight of environmental and climate responsibility. While the main event on October 19th and 20th deals with the theme “Green Investment and Resilience”, the Aviation sector was chosen for a specific Side Event, held with support and expertise from the Civil Aviation Secretariat (SAC) and the Project ProQR – Climate-neutral Alternative Fuels.

The ProQR project – implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH within the German Cooperation for Sustainable Development in Brazil, in partnership with the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovations (MCTI) – argues that the use of sustainable fuels is crucial for an aviation committed to carbon reduction. However, the implementation of this disruptive concept of clean and functional energy use presents challenges.

The VIA VIVA 2021 Side Event will be an excellent opportunity to discuss this issue in depth through expert talks and question sections. In addition, a select group of experts from the aviation sector will discuss the Side Event’s progress in an interactive workshop, which will focus on fuel production routes, regulatory issues and infrastructure issues.

The event, whose opening will feature the participation of representatives from ProQR, MInfra and MCTI, will have as speakers: Phd. Nathan Debortoli, an expert on climate adaptation and environment from PlanAdapt; Prof. Donato Aranda, specialist in biodiesel and biofuels and professor at the Department of Chemical Engineering at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ); Alex Medeiros, specialist in regulation at the National Agency for Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP); Ana Helena Mandelli, distribution manager at the Brazilian Institute of Oil and Gas (IBP).
