Our recent study on stakeholder mapping and assessment for Kenya’s maritime and shipping sector systematically identified and analysed key stakeholders, assessed their interests and concerns regarding the defossilisation of the shipping sector. Additionally, it evaluated their influence within the sector, and examined the relationships among them. Finally, the study recommended opportunities for collaboration to enhance Kenya\u2019s position as a global hub for green shipping. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The study accentuates the necessity of understanding the roles and influences of various stakeholders to align Kenya with the global transition to sustainable fuels and establish it as a green corridor. The stakeholder mapping identified crucial groups including government ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs), private sector entities, international organisations, and community-based organisations (CBOs). Each group has distinct concerns and interests, such as MDAs’ focus on creating an enabling environment for Power-to-X (PtX) projects, private sector concerns about investment costs and regulatory uncertainty, international organisations’ emphasis on alignment with global standards, and CBOs’ advocacy for inclusive development that benefits local communities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
In exploring the potential of green hydrogen and PtX products, the study revealed the essential roles played by these stakeholders in policy formulation, technology development, and implementation. For instance, MDAs influence policy and regulatory frameworks, international governmental organisations and cooperation agencies shape global and national policies and provide financial assistance, while private entities invest in and implement green hydrogen technologies. Non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and CBOs advocate for environmental sustainability and community welfare, ensuring that the transition to sustainable fuels is both equitable and inclusive. To sum up, by effectively leveraging these stakeholders, Kenya aims to position itself as a green shipping hub. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
