The study demonstrates how ports or its Special Economic Zones (SEZ)\u2014which are strategic gateways for trade and Power-to-X (PtX) infrastructure\u2014can harness local wind and solar resources to unlock PtX opportunities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Key insights include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>Resource Assessment &amp; Financial Modelling<\/strong>: The study builds on the <a href=\"https:\/\/ptx-hub.org\/publication\/identifying-re-sites-for-ptx-production-at-south-african-ports\/\">Environmental Screening Report<\/a> and delves deep into identifying viable wind and solar resource zones near major ports and conducts techno-economic modelling to test project viability.<\/li><li><strong>Elevating PtX Pathways<\/strong>: Integrating the findings with the broader PtX landscape, the study supports the development of green hydrogen and derivative fuels (like green ammonia and e-fuels) that can be produced and shipped via port infrastructure\u2014establishing a critical link between renewable generation and PtX value chains.<\/li><li><strong>Empowering Just Energy Transition<\/strong>: The study contributes to South Africa&#8217;s strategic planning efforts that prioritize sustainable infrastructure, inclusive stakeholder engagement, and the alignment of port-based energy projects with South Africa\u2019s burgeoning defossilization and industrial modernization goals<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3><strong>Why This Matters<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Ports are not just trade hubs\u2014they\u2019re gateways for South Africa\u2019s green energy evolution.
