The continent\u2019s vast potential to generate affordable and sustainable green hydrogen places it at the forefront of the global energy transition, while also offering solutions to address local energy access and security challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This report <strong>provides a comprehensive analysis of green hydrogen development across Africa. It offers an in-depth assessment of the continent\u2019s potential and readiness to build a competitive green hydrogen economy<\/strong>. The report reviews existing and planned projects, examines policy and regulatory frameworks, and evaluates institutional and technological capabilities. In addition to highlighting opportunities and showcasing best practice cases, the report identifies key barriers and bottlenecks and presents actionable recommendations to enhance regional cooperation and accelerate the growth of the green hydrogen sector in Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The report is based exclusively on a desktop study using secondary data sources. <strong>It applies a tiered analytical framework that captures the varying stages of green hydrogen development across African countries<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>Level 1<\/strong>: Countries that have made notable progress in green hydrogen development, including the publication of national green hydrogen strategies and\/or roadmaps.<\/li><li><strong>Level 2<\/strong>: Countries engaged in early-stage green hydrogen activities, such as prefeasibility studies, policy dialogues, and educational or technical partnerships.<\/li><li><strong>Level 3<\/strong>: Countries with key enablers of the green hydrogen value chain, including abundant renewable energy resources and critical raw materials such as platinum group metals, copper, and nickel.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Minister of South Africa&#8217;s Department of Electricity and Energy and Chair of the African Green Hydrogen Alliance Dr Kgosientsho Ramokgopa launched the report at the <a href=\"https:\/\/greenhydrogensummit.org.za\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">African Green Hydrogen Summit<\/a> in Cape Town on 12 and 13 June 2025.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa, with its abundant renewable energy resources, is well positioned to become a global leader in green hydrogen production.
