Argentina’s Pathway to Exporting RFNBO to Europe
This study explains how Argentina can export certified PtX and green hydrogen products to the European Union, a market expected to generate significant future demand for these fuels. As Argentina considers PtX products as a potential export opportunity in the short and medium term, compliance with the EU criteria for Renewable Fuels of Non-Biological Origin (RFNBO) certification becomes a central consideration.
The report aims to provide technical guidance to PtX project developers and other stakeholders in Argentina. It clarifies the certification criteria established under the Renewable Energy Directive (RED II) and its delegated acts, and assesses their practical application in the Argentine regulatory and power-system context.
The study is structured in two parts. The first outlines the relevant European regulatory provisions governing PtX products. The second analyses potential implementation pathways for projects located in Argentina that intend to supply the EU market, highlighting key challenges and areas where further clarification may be required.
