In October, our Director Torsten Schwab was invited to join a panel on green hydrogen and storage at the 360 solar conference in Florianópolis, Brazil. It is one of the leading conference gathering experts from the solar energy sector in Brazil.

Ricardo Rüther, Professor for solar photovoltaics (PV) at the Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC) in Florianopolis, opened the panel discussion. He set the scene with his presentation on the interplay between solar PV and hydrogen and its potential as an energy storage.

Next Maíra Mallmann, post-doc researcher in chemical engineering for sustainable energy development at UFSC, presented the green hydrogen plant based at the Photovoltaic Laboratory of UFSC. The Laboratory was supported with funding from H2Brasil, a project implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, and was inaugurated in the end of August. The plant includes water electrolysis and a Haber-Bosch synthesis loop for producing ammonia.

Our Director Torsten Schwab introduced production processes of Power-to-X (PtX) products, dived into transport and storage, and highlighted financing and sustainability as two key aspects for the uptake of the future PtX industry in his input.
