In February 2023, the European Commission published the two Delegated Acts pursuant to Article 27 and Article 28 of the Renewable Energy Directive (REDII). These set out the requirements for renewable hydrogen and other Renewable Fuels of Non-Biological Origin (RFNBOs) consumed in the EU and apply to all RFNBOs, whether produced within or outside the EU.
The rules specify the sourcing of renewable electricity in the production of RFNBOs and the methodology for calculating the greenhouse gas emissions savings of RFNBOs. The delegated acts will be imperative for demand side support measures in the EU and have received at lot of interest from actors in our partner countries.
The International PtX Hub, together with Öko-Institut, adelphi and the Ecologic Institute, has developed a briefing that analyses in detail the contents of the two Delegated Acts adopted by the European Commission.
