As the year draws to a close, we celebrate the achievements and developments of the PtX.Community. Throughout this year, the Community has seen new participants joining, following the PtX.Trainings conducted around the world. People having completed e-learnings have also joined the Community, leading to an increase in engagement and activity on the platform. For instance, between the months of October and November alone, members posted approximatively 300 times on the platform, gaining over 1000 impressions. With over 300 registered participants from different regions and professional and academic backgrounds, the PtX.Community is a unique asset in terms of its diversity, and the opportunities it provides for networking and building the future of PtX.

The PtX.Community aims to bring together Power-to-X enthusiasts and experts from around the world. It provides a platform for people to network, and to facilitate practical implementation of PtX learnings. In doing so, we build a cohesive and inclusive Community of Practice involved with the shaping and implementation of a green transition in the energy, and harder-to-abate sectors.

Eleven Community Calls in 2024

In 2024, the PtX.Community exchanged in 11 Live Calls, mainly focusing on building and sharing knowledge, as well as debating and discussing several aspects of PtX development. The topic of sustainability gained increased relevance following the publication of our PtX.Sustainability Briefings this year, allowing the Community members to directly engage with recent research.

A Summer Webinar series, organised with partners from the Agora think tanks, was closely tied to the joint work on the Business Opportunity Analyser 2.0, but also on aviation, including the launch of two  publications on e-fuels to defossilise aviation.

The PtX Hub also organised a Winter Webinar series with a number of partners, giving greater visibility and accessibility to events and webinars across the industry. First, we discussed the scaling up of SAF production (part of the Transport and Climate Change Week 2024) and different modes of production for green ammonia (organised with Dechema). Second, finance for PtX market ramp-up was the hot topic of three sessions organised with PtX Lab Lausitz and Agora Verkehrswende.

For the PtX.Trainer Network specifically, the PtX Hub held webinars on new methods for engaging transfer exercises in trainings, and sought their expert feedback and review of the new CBAM training module.

Finally, we closed the year with our 2024 Recap Community Call. Dr Yassine Zegzouti (Consultant in Power-to-X with GIZ Maroc), Noelia Alfaro Medina (Professor in Economics and Renewable Energy and Green Hydrogen at the Center for Higher National Studies (CALEN) and Universidad de Montevideo), Dr.Veronica Díaz Moreno (Professor at the Institute of Chemical Engineering UdelaR and researcher with the National Agency for Research and Innovation), and Samson Tolessa (Head of Secretariate in the Ethiopian and German Energy Cooperation division of GIZ Ethiopia) made valuable interventions on the development of PtX in their respective countries Morocco, Ethiopia, and Uruguay, as well as Community members themselves, with insights on regional developments. Not only did we discuss 2024, but 2025 as well: to speed up the green transition and the development of the PtX market, it is important to have common and shared views on the future and what it will look like, hence the importance of a Community for the Hub.

All Community Calls were recorded and can be watched on the Community platform on atingi.

Community interactions

Finally, the PtX Hub worked to engage with the Community through weekly news updates on green hydrogen and PtX, Community and PtX Hub updates, as well as encouragement for interaction on the atingi platform. Through the thematic forum, and the regional fora, participants brought up topics such as the role of AI in the development of the green hydrogen and renewable energies economy, or more region-specific topics such as the development of Namibia’s green hydrogen exports to the EU, as well as a webinar series directed at the development of the green hydrogen economy in Latin America.

A few members shared their experiences with the PtX.Community:

The PtX Hub has enabled me to see green hydrogen through a new lens. After the PtX.Basic training, I can now stay in touch and benefit from the PtX.Community’s valuable resources of discussion forums, newsletters, event announcements and networking opportunities with experts from around the world.

Yassine Zegzouti, Specialist in Power-to-X (PtX) and Climate Change

The PtX.Community has become an invaluable resource for staying up to date with the latest developments in PtX initiatives. The regular updates and community calls provide a unique opportunity to connect with experts from around the world. In particular, the sharing of knowledge and cross-border collaboration is invaluable in the development of an emerging market such as green hydrogen and PtX.

Outlook into 2025

As we close this year, we would like to thank all members of the PtX.Community for their active participation! We also hope that the Community has enjoyed and partaken in the Calls and Webinars. We look forward to a new year together, and warmly invite further PtX enthusiasts to join us on this journey. 2025 is already shaping out to be an exciting year, with trainings and events coming up. So far, the Hub has planned two virtual trainings, one on PtX.Finance in Latin America, and a Train-of-Trainer for the PtX.Shipping Add-On Module. In fact, shipping, as well as aviation pre-announce themselves as being the key topics for PtX next year. The Hub will also be present in a number of events, for example at the Transport and Climate Change Week (TCCW), the Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue (BETD), the European Hydrogen Week, and many more!
