A few months after its official implementation, the European Union’s rules for renewable hydrogen certification are gaining significance. As Algeria intends to export renewable hydrogen to the EU, certification is crucial for its policymakers and project developers to understand.
As part of the technical support by the International PtX Hub and the BMZ project ‘TaqatHy’ to the Algerian government for renewable hydrogen development, an online workshop created the space to discuss certification in-depth on September 13, 2023.
Representatives from the Ministry of Energy and Mines and its firms and agencies, the Commission for Renewable Energies and Energy Efficiency “CEREFE”, and research and development institutions attended the webinar.
A team of experts from the Öko-Institute and adelphi held a set of presentations on the EU Delegated Acts on renewable hydrogen of RED II, the H2Global mechanism, as well as the IPHE methodology.
During the discussions, topics such as the use of carbon market revenues in green hydrogen infrastructure funding, the existing structures for green hydrogen certification, the possibility of forming a bilateral committee on green hydrogen certification, and the blended gas certification rules were in the focus.
Due to the significance of green hydrogen certification in the market ramp-up, the International PtX Hub as well as the project ‘TaqatHy’ in Algeria are looking forward to supplying further assistance to the Algerian government through future stakeholder dialogues in this field.
This webinar for Algerian stakeholders concluded a larger series conducted by the PtX Hub and the Öko-Institute and adelphi. In total 9 workshops were held in Algeria, Chile, Colombia, India, Jordan, Kenya, Namibia, South Africa, Uruguay, and Vietnam.
