H2Uppp – Project development and market ramp-up with the private sector

Green hydrogen is pivotal to the energy transition and climate protection. Nevertheless, the international green hydrogen market remains in its infancy. To facilitate its expansion, entrepreneurial commitment, expertise, and investment are key. But entering new markets is often associated with considerable effort and risk. H2Uppp therefore supports companies in identifying, preparing, and implementing projects for the production and use of green hydrogen – especially in countries of the Global South.
Catalysing global energy transition
By initiating the International Hydrogen Ramp-up Programme (H2Uppp), the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK) supports the entrepreneurial drive and project development crucial to the global scaling of hydrogen markets. In doing so, the BMWK fosters investment and propels the global hydrogen economy. These projects also offer local economic benefits, generating jobs, tax revenue, and entrepreneurial growth through the production, use, and trade of green hydrogen and its derivatives. With this initiative, BMWK helps meet future green hydrogen demand in Germany and Europe, while enabling valuable technology transfer.
Public Private Partnerships

At the heart of H2Uppp, private and public partners, consisting of companies based in Germany or the EU, possible local partners and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), will synergise their competencies through formalised public-private cooperation (PPP) projects with the aim of fostering the growth of the market for green H2/PtX technologies and applications across the entire value chain. All activities are implemented in close cooperation with the respective German Chambers of Commerce Abroad (AHKs).

H2Uppp invites companies based in Germany or the EU to enter their proposals for the promotion of green hydrogen and their derivates.
