Maritime transport is currently responsible for 3% of global emissions. The sector is committed to achieving net zero emissions by 2050, despite forecasts that global freight will double or even triple within the same timeframe.
The transformation of the maritime industry is underway, and countries around the globe are leading the way. National Action Plans are being developed to decrease greenhouse gas emissions. Germany has already begun work on its National Action Plan on shipping, as have South Africa, Kenya and India, among others. Green Shipping Corridors are being discussed as the key to accelerate the transition. While huge global and national efforts are needed, the transition will also undoubtedly create new value chains and drive economic growth.
To gather more insight on this crucial transition, join us for a dialogue among high-level stakeholders from the maritime industry on October 7 in Hamburg. We will be discussing how to accelerate global efforts for green shipping and achieve more sustainability and ambitious environmental and energy transition goals. The event will take place back-to-back with the Hamburg Sustainability Conference and the IAPH World Port Conference in Hamburg.
The dialogue will focus on a number of key areas, including:
- The role green hydrogen and Power-to-X play in defossilising shipping
- Policy progress and initiatives like National Action Plans
- The concept and development of Green Shipping Corridors and their significance
- Potential for innovation and economic opportunities for the maritime industry
- Alignment between global efforts on sustainability and climate action
- The exchange of strategies and best practices for sustainable shipping
