Sustainability Briefing #3: Land use in the context of Power-to-X
In order to realise the full potential of green hydrogen and Power-to-X (PtX) projects, all stakeholders must carefully consider the questions of land acquisition and land use. This is not only necessary from a legal perspective, but considerate land acquisition and land use also contribute to the social licence to operate. A clear legal framework for land use rights can facilitate the evaluation, assessment, development, implementation and financing of large-scale green hydrogen and PtX projects. The third sustainability briefing addresses land use associated with renewable energy production and electrolysis plants. In addition, it presents helpful steps for land selection and aspects to consider during the process.
The briefing is aimed at policy makers, regulators and other stakeholders seeking an introduction to land use in the context of PtX.
More on key aspects of PtX sustainability
When designing green hydrogen and PtX value chains and policy frameworks, key elements of sustainability must be taken into account to ensure long-term positive impacts for all stakeholders involved. Our sustainability briefings shed light on environmental, social and economic development opportunities that must be considered for a successful market ramp-up. The briefings were developed in cooperation with experts from the Wuppertal Institute for Climate, Environment and Energy.
