Countries around the world see green hydrogen and Power-to-X (PtX) as an opportunity to contribute to global defossilisation as well as enhance their socio-economic development. But how can countries identify promising business opportunities within the PtX value chain? To adress this question, Agora Energiewende and Oeko-Institute under the umbrella of the International PtX Hub developed the “Business Opportunity Analyzer“. This tool supports policymakers and project developers in understanding their country’s specific PtX cost potentials.
The “Business Opportunity Analyzer” was offcially launched during the online session “Navigating the landscape”, hosted by Agora Energiewende on 21 June 2023. During the launch, participants learned about the structure, the database and potential results of the tool.
About the Business Opportunity Analyzer
The “Business Opportunity Analyzer” identify regions with promising business opportunities within the PtX value chain at a pre-feasebility level, supporting the development of targeted policies to stimulate investment. It helps to:
- get an impresion of total costs of delivered hydrogen and various PtX products (e.g. green ammonia and e-methanol) from an export country to a potential import country.
- analyse the cost components of selectable process chains and production routes.
- compare costs between various production pathways, supply and demand countries on a global scale.
- adjust data points based on user’s experience.
- access comprehensive addition context information on sustainability issues and certification schemes.
The “Business Opportunity Analyzer” has a global scope covering most countries, including a deep dive analysis for Argentina, Morocco and South Africa. In the development process insights and assumptions of the tool were discussed with local policy and business experts.
